3. The Slasher
The Slasher
The Slasher
The Slasher
Fallout 76
Raven Rock:7

Rob: Rob, get up here.
Richard: Haha, hello.
Rob: Welcome.
Richard: What’s that funky noise it made?
Rob: Oh, yeah? Let’s see. Let’s see. There we go. Hm. I don’t know. Looks normal. Looks good. How’s everybody doing? I hope you’re having a pretty good Friday. Let’s see. Smitty. Fargassier, what’s going on, buddy? Hungarian Toad, what’s up, what’s up? Mole Miner Gauntlet. How’s it going? Oh, Rob, your camera looks so clean. What?
Richard: Doesn’t it? I’m always worried about it.
Rob: No, it looks so good. What is happening?
Richard: I don’t know what’s different. It doesn’t look…
Rob: I don’t know. You have some Teams normally.
Richard: No, it didn’t look like this earlier today. To Read Fridges, what what are we doing with these fridges? Let’s see. Let’s see. We should be getting our guests for today pretty soon. 18th NUM, yeah, probably. I did have a light lunch, so I am… Oh, through playing a game of throwing fridges? I’m always shocked by how light some like home furniture or home appliances can actually be. There he is.
Richard: Oh, thank you, Fargassier. Yeah, I’m perplex myself why it looks so crisp and clean. And I was struggling to pick a background as well, because no one wants to see my bedroom, so…
Rob: Welcome, Jon. Your mic’s lighting up, but we don’t hear you yet.
Jon: Oh, have I now?
Rob: Yeah, there he is.
Jon: Am I good?
Rob: Perfect.
Jon: All good?
Rob: We were just talking about how Rob’s camera is super clean.
Richard: We don’t know why.
Rob: We don’t know why. It’s just like super high quality. It’s just the lighting looks perfect. It just looks good.
Jon: Not bad. How are you doing, Jon?
Jon: Oh, pretty good. How about yourself?
Rob: Doing well. I realized… Oh, I didn’t realize, but I finished my vocal warmups. Because I’ve realized about myself that I can’t really do any public speaking like coming out just like cold. Like I need to have a whole preparation period. Yeah.
Jon: Can you demonstrate these vocal warmups?
Rob: Hey, it’s just a bunch of humming and what is it? It’s the “hm-hm-hm-hm-hm-hm-hm-hm”. I’m demonstrating. Yeah. And it’s just “hm-hm-hm-hm-hm-hm-hm-hm”. Just go up and down the like scale. Um, we had a… There’s a fun just like… I don’t know. What do you call this when you just go “pft-pft-pft-pft-pft”? What what are those called? I have no idea what those are… like horse noise with your lips? But you do that up and down the scale, too. Um, what was the the other one I did? It had a scale like a…
Jon: Yodeling.
Rob: I’ve not yodeled. No. I’ve never yodeled. Never in my life. Let’s see. We have Barbara.
Jon: Find some water. I’ll be right back.
Rob: Take your time. We have time. Barbara, can you hear us?
Barbara: Hello! Again.
Rob: Welcome, welcome, welcome.
Barbara: Can you hear me well?
Rob: Yes, you’re coming in through loud and clear. I was just demonstrating to the crew here that um… I I have to do vocal warmups before doing any public speaking. Otherwise, it just comes out completely wrong. So, Jon wanted me to demonstrate some of the vocal warmups, which I gladly did.
Barbara: Oh, I’m sad I missed it.
Rob: You you missed it?
Barbara: I missed it. I went for a second.
Rob: Ah, fine fine. So, start off with a little bit of humming up and down the scale like “hm-hm-hm-hm-hm-hm-hm-hm”. Just kind of go up and then you go down. Uh, did some uh… I I don’t know what these are called, but it’s like… Wait, who are you looking for, a mute button?
Jon: No.
Rob: What do you need a mute button for?
Jon: I don’t know. Why do you need one?
Rob: But then the next exercise was like just “pft-pft-pft-pft-pft”. Just kind of doing that up up and down the scale, too. Um, it’s a fun little 5-minute play session that I think really helps me. I don’t… it could help, it could not help. I have no real proof. Um, it helps me mentally. It make- makes me believe that I’m ready for this.
Barbara: The confidence is important.
Rob: The confidence. That’s what I keep telling people. You just got to fake it.
Barbara: Yes.
Rob: Do we know if we’ll be getting a Bill? I know we’re still a bit ahead of time, so he’ll probably be coming in shortly. So while we wait, we’re going to do one of my classic questions. What did you all have for lunch? Or what are you planning to have for lunch?
Jon: Ooh.
Richard: I made a toasty.
Rob: All right. Explain it.
Richard: Um, pepperoni, grated mozzarella, oregano, and like a tomato puree sauce, in a toasty. It’s good.
Rob: What type of bread?
Richard: Uh, I don’t know if it has a fancy name. We just call it like brown bread over here in the UK. Just brown.
Jon: Brown bread?
Rob: I love it. That sounds good though.
Richard: Wholemeal, I guess, yeah.
Jon: Yeah.
Rob: Barbara, lunch?
Barbara: Uh, I didn’t have lunch yet, and I really don’t plan ahead, you know? I’ll I’ll see what I feel in the moment.
Rob: Yeah, you kind of walk into the kitchen and just look around and it’s like, this.
Barbara: Yeah. Probably it’s just going to have bread as well.
Rob: Jon, lunch?
Jon: Um…
Rob: A few quail eggs?
Jon: Nah.
Rob: Some some sort of smoothie?
Jon: No, I had a…
Rob: Maybe you upgraded from a carrot to a cucumber?
Jon: Okay, I’ve had a protein bar and I’m just washing washing it down with a little…
Rob: Topo Chico.
Jon: Topo Chico.
Rob: That’s fair.
Jon: Free of Rads.
Rob: Free of Rads. Lucky you.
Jon: I’m Rad enough already.
Richard: I will say yesterday’s yesterday’s lunch was a bit better. I had leftover Pad Thai. Jon, do you remember the Pad Thai, the the Thai place we went to in London?
Jon: I do, yeah. That was good.
Richard: Some of that, it was very good.
Jon: I do remember.
Rob: I’m jealous. That sounds good. I had cheese and crackers.
Richard: Classic.
Bill: What’s up, all?
Jon: Hello, hello. That’s a that’s a that’s a school lunch, cheese and crackers with juice.
Rob: It’s an energy drink, but yeah, it is pretty much juice.
Jon: It’s juice.
Rob: It’s juice.
Jon: Crackers and juice, yeah.
Rob: Crackers and juice, like a child.
Jon: Yeah, that’s good.
Bill: I didn’t want to say that out loud. My my Lunchable, it was really good.
Jon: I see a lot of familiar faces in the chat. Got MODUS, Fargassier, Nuka Girl. Just kind of skimming.
Bill: Yeah, we were we were making our own Lunchables before that was even a thing.
Rob: Before Lunchables became a thing? Did you just hit us with the “back in my day,” you know, we had to create our own Lunchables?
Bill: I did. I did. I think the most embarrassing one was I made a *Smokey and the Bandit* joke and had no one knew what the hell that was. It was great.
Rob: What was the lunch… What’s the lunch, Bill? What did you have or what are you planning?
Bill: I’m not eating until after this, yeah.
Rob: Yeah, okay, fair. Fair enough. We have 3 minutes, I’m going to hit start the stage so that we can get our notifications in and let everybody know that it’s beginning.
Jon: I think Bill has the most fun background.
Rob: Yeah, there’s a lot going on there.
Jon: Looks like a room I just want to hang out in.
Bill: Yeah, you like my uh controller PS or my PlayStation controller uh balloons back there? It’s great.
Richard: On brand. I was wondering if they were balloons, yeah.
Bill: Appar- Apparently, the people around me think I enjoy celebrating birthdays at this age, but no, that’s uh…
Rob: Oh, did you just just have one? Congrats!
Bill: I did. I did. Thank you.
Jon: What? When was that?
Bill: 19th.
Jon: Really?
Bill: Yes, sir.
Rob: Oh, you’re an August baby, you’re an August kid, too? Damn, man.
Jon: Oh, that was last month.
Bill: Yeah, last month, sorry. Yeah.
Richard: Those are sturdy balloons, then, if they’re still, you know, floating around.
Jon: Nuka Girl, don’t wish him happy birthday. That was almost a month ago.
Bill: It was belated. I appreciate it. Thank you.
Rob: Yeah. Where I live, we have those balloons with the good helium. Those balloons stay up for a while.
Bill: They have stayed around for a while, for sure.
Rob: Okay, we’ve got a few more minutes uh before we go ahead and get started. Um, I’m going to ask… What’s what’s the next question we should ask the uh group, guys? We started this a bit earlier than normal, so I don’t have all of my usual nonsense prepared. Looking at you, chat.
Rob: Oh, Loser, we’re going to be talking about that. Don’t you worry. We’ve got a whole section to to talk about the native update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and what this means for PC moving forward. Oh, what’s your favorite Chems in Fallout 76? That’s a great question, Mr Enclave. Actually, I’ll modify it. If you had to become addicted to one of the drugs in Fallout 76, which drug would it be?
Bill: Probably Jet.
Rob: Jet.
Jon: Psycho.
Rob: Psycho. That that fits.
Richard: Berry Mentats because that’s just my character’s addicted to them already, so I might as well join them.
Rob: Yeah.
Barbara: I mean, not really a Chem, but my character runs on canned coffee, and that is pretty much like in real life.
Rob: So you’re just role playing. I love that. All right, Jon.
Bill: Jon gets tea every day at the uh in the in the kitchen, so Company Tea probably works pretty well for him.
Jon: Oh, is that what I’m doing? Or am I taking part in the coffee as well?
Bill: Oh no. What have you done?
Jon: I’m taking part in the coffee as well.
Richard: Is that Is that Pumpkin Spice, Jon?
Jon: It is not.
Richard: Jon.
Rob: That’s kind of disappointing. Let’s see.
Bill: That stuff is disgusting.
Rob: You’re anti-Pumpkin Spice? You better be careful.
Bill: No, just the season.
Richard: ‘Tis the season.
Bill: Yeah, the season. No, I’m kidding. I love this I love this season. The whole season. The season sucks. I hate I hate fall.
Rob: All right, gang. Let’s go ahead and get this started. Welcome once again to our AMA. But this time it’s an A- It’s an AMA for The Slasher Update, which is arriving on September 15th. Uh, my name is Richard Stanford, Senior Community Manager over here at Bethesda Softworks, if you don’t know. And with me is my wonderful co-host, back for the second time, Rob. Rob, say hi to the people.
Richard: Hello, everyone. Nice to see you all again. Uh, I’m Rob. I’m Community Manager uh on on Fallout, working alongside uh Richard and Violet Light as well.
Rob: Yes. Yes, indeed. This is our seventh Discord AMA since uh which is amazing. It like, we’re inching closer to to 10, which is fun. And then soon we’ll be at We would have been doing this for an entire year. Um, well, I guess more than a year because we do this quarterly. See, this is when I start playing tricks in my own mind, so let me move on from this. Uh, our guest list today, we have the wonderful Jon Rush and Bill Lacoste back for another A- another AMA. Jon, Bill, say hi to the the people.
Jon: Hello!
Bill: Hello, friends!
Rob: And for the first time uh appearing in our AMA, we have Barbara. Barbara, welcome. Thank you so much for making the time to join us.
Barbara: Thank you for having me. I’m really excited to be here for the first time.
Rob: Yes. Yes. Yes. And Barbara, for the people who don’t know you, would you mind giving them a quick introduction? Letting people know who you are and what type of work you do on Fallout 76.
Barbara: Of course. I am Barbara. I’m a Senior Quest Designer on 76. I have been here for about a year now. Super excited. I already loved 76 before joining the team, so it’s been a pleasure to work with this wonderful team. And I was working on the story and the quests for The Slasher.
Rob: Awesome. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And now for the Our AMAs, we always start with some questions for me because I’m the one hosting and I get to dictate which questions get asked and which don’t get asked. Um, so we’re going to kick it off with actually a question from AhrmDragon who wanted to know: How are things going? So, Jon, how are things going?
Jon: Like in the game or just like in general?
Rob: Just in life! In life!
Jon: Well, my elbows are a little sore. Left in back’s a little sore. That’s what happens when you when you’re a really high level like myself. Oh, okay. But uh yeah, the game, yeah, things are going great. You know, we’re all really excited for our 70th update that is about to come out, our 70th free update coming out next Tuesday, packed full of all sorts of great stuff, quality-of-life stuff, uh adjustments to features, and of course the the the new Slasher Update as well, which which we’re here to talk about today. Um, so, yeah, we’re we’re excited for that. We’re excited for the the content coming up through the rest of the year, really. It’s it’s uh a great time to great time to be in the wasteland.
Rob: Yeah. Bill? How are things going?
Bill: Yeah, I mean I could I couldn’t agree more with Jon, but I mean uh not only through the end of the year, but also through next year. I mean just a ton of stuff that we’ve got that we think uh… and we’ll talk about a little bit today uh in here, but uh players are going to be really excited about, and I think people will be happy to hear um that we’re getting around to some of the things they’ve been asking for for a while, too. So, yeah, really excited for for what we got coming up.
Rob: And Barbara?
Barbara: Uh all good here as well. Uh I’m hard at work on some of the new stuff coming later, uh but it’s super exciting to finally see The Slasher reach the public. I really want to see how people feel about it.
Rob: Yeah, and actually speaking of The Slasher, Barbara, like in our conversations leading up to us reaching this point, we’ve had a lot of awesome conversations just about like the lore and the story behind what the team is doing here. And I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind setting the stage for what players are going to experience on September 15th.
Barbara: Of course! Let’s get into it. Uh I’m sure a lot of you already know, but the Pint-Sized Slasher is a very iconic character that was introduced in Fallout 3, and there’s still a lot we don’t know about him. He started as sort of uh an urban legend, like the story that we tell children to scare them, you know? Uh it’s about a little kid who is wearing this very creepy clown mask, and he appears at dusk and chases people with a knife. And that is already very scary. But to make things even worse, sometime before the war, there were a series of killings uh that happened in DC. And no one ever found who was responsible for them, but one of the witnesses uh said the killer was a little kid wearing a clown mask. So those murders were never solved, no one knows how much of it is true, how much of it is just a myth, but the Pint-Sized Slasher became like this cultural icon. Lots of people were dressed like him for Halloween, the masks were everywhere, and even after the bombs, a lot of people still wanted to know who he was, what was the mystery. So cut to our update, we’re going to be introducing this new faction. Uh they are a group of people who idolize the Slasher, and they have dedicated their lives to finding him. They call themselves the Pint-Sized Phantoms because they’re very dramatic like that. And they arrive in Appalachia and they’re like spreading chaos, they’re killing the innocent, they’re spreading lies and recruiting the gullible, they claim to have connections to the occult. So now it’s up to you, our Vault Dwellers, to figure out what they want, what they’re doing, and how to send them away. And oh, they are also going to have the help of this new group of investigative journalists called The Debunker Crew uh because they are also invested in getting answers and helping the people of Appalachia.
Rob: Yeah, and anybody can be a part of the Debunker Crew, right?
Barbara: Oh, absolutely, we’re all part of it.
Rob: We’re all part of the Debunker Crew, and maybe even Violet Light and and I, too. Keep an eye on social, so on September 15th to learn more about what that might mean. Jon, this is a first… I we’ve never done an update like The Slasher before. We didn’t necessarily dig into it just yet, but like the content for The Slasher plays out over the course of the entire patch. I was wondering if you could talk a little bit about kind of like what inspired this type of uh update for Fallout 76.
Jon: Yeah, it’s actually not just playing out over the course of the entire patch, but over the course of the next two patches, over uh Patch 70, which is the the the Slasher, and 71. Um, so what inspired it was just, you know, it’s wanting to try a different format, right? Like for years, of course, what we’ve done is uh a big update, or one of our bigger updates comes out and it’s like, “Here’s all the content,” and then people are rushing through it, and then they’re all ready for the next one. And that that’s fine, that’s great, but we wanted to try one where it was kind of more uh episodic that played out over time. So over the course of the like 12 or 13 or weeks or so over the for these two patches, uh different um sort of chapters kind of unlock, right? And and they’re different ways that that the players can participate in trying to find out who this imposter is and and maybe get their hands on some on some really cool rewards. Um, what another part that kind of inspired this was being a live service game, right? We’ve got wonderful community team um that can use this as a platform to sort of uh tell stories across socials about this update, keep people uh sort of in the loop, um and also keep our live team engaged, too. Um, again going back to like our updates being like a, “Here’s the patch, here’s the update, go play it,” like they have been in the past. Um, this one relies on our live team to… I’m going to I’m going to oversimplify and I apologize. To really just kind of enable uh these different chapters of content by these live toggles uh that are occurring on the on the server side to unlock this content. Um, so it’s it’s, yeah, it’s fun. It’s It’s been a it’s been a a fun experiment. Uh, we’ve we’ve playtested the the hell out of this and we think it’s a lot of fun. We think players are going to have a blast and looking forward to to getting it out there.
Rob: Absolutely, and it’s coming really, really soon, too. Uh, Barbara, when writing a questline or like a narrative around an update that’s supposed to span throughout multiple patches, uh what was that process like? Because you you knew this before you started writing, so just talk a little bit about that, please.
Barbara: Of course. Uh yeah, it’s very different than what we usually do with a traditional questline. And I think part of what inspired uh this kind of content is that in a game like 76, one of the most amazing things you see is how players create their own stories through how they interact with our systems, right? So we really wanted to create this story that goes beyond just a quest. We want the players to feel like all the time that they are in Appalachia throughout the season, they feel that the world is different, and they are engaging with this narrative. So the quests, they were just supposed to be the spark that gets you interested in what’s going on, in these uh enemies arriving and how it changes the world, but we wanted you to feel like you’re playing it all the time. It’s not a story that ends once the the first quest uh is completed, and then you wait for the next one. No, you’re playing all the time. So instead of focusing more on a plot, uh the twists, of course all the good stuff is there as well, but our main priority was player motivation, context, themes, and how we were spreading that around the map in a way that didn’t completely change the game that we already know and love, but still felt like it was meaningful. So the process was very collaborative. Uh I worked with our amazing system design team, level design, art, everyone came together, and we were thinking of the story like existing in the world. So we have new enemies uh spawning in different places, we have random encounters, we spread messages on the walls, we have twists to our gameplay that uh players already know, but now they are invited to rediscover them. And we also have our new radio station uh because when we were thinking about adding uh a sidekick, you know, like a new character that helps you uh with a radio station, you can bring this character along. So as you’re exploring the world at your own pace, you’re still uh hearing the information, you still have someone with you uh accompanying you through the the adventure.
Rob: Yeah, you kind of have that like like you said, a companion to kind of travel along with you in this very spooky, scary situation Appalachia has found itself in. That’s awesome. That’s great.
Barbara: Exactly. Yeah, it was just uh very exciting to find new ways to immerse the player in the story.
Rob: Love it. So, we’ll have some more Slasher questions coming up soon, but uh Loserbum, specifically, this is the time. We’re going to talk to Bill about the uh native update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles and about the different tech uh questions that you all had, too. Um, so let me start with the first question, Bill, from AhrmDragon… Actually, before that, Bill, would you mind setting the stage for what players can expect from this Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 native update?
Bill: Yeah, for sure. I mean, it’s been a long road to just get to this stage and point, but, you know, you’ll actually have, you know, um… and I think this kind of may get into some people’s questions that they may have anyway, but it’ll be a separate download, a brand new separate download for folks, and so you’ll be able to get rid of uh the previous gen uh download um and download this new build. But what you’re going to see is um a little bit better fidelity, of course, but also um 60 frames a second. You know, the game feels really smooth, really solid, really responsive. Um, it’s an immediate notice, especially for those of you played on PTS, I’m pretty sure when you logged in and started playing, it was like, “Oh wow, this is night and day difference, right?” So, uh, but you’re going to see a lot of improvements there, um and then I’ve got some stuff that I’ll talk about, you know, a little bit later about, you know, further improvements that are going to be happening in the future. But um, yeah, um just the fact that we officially have an X and S and a PlayStation 5 build now is just super exciting for me. Uh, again, it’s been about a year and a half of time uh to get us to this point, so um it’s a really good day coming for us.
Rob: Yeah, yeah, and I believe uh I think MODUS said it in the chat, but like the fact that we’ve got PTS on consoles now, too, so a whole other group of players can now experience and give feedback on on content like our Steam players have been doing for for years now, is is a huge win.
Bill: Yeah, for sure.
Rob: Yeah, so with your question, you actually answered AhrmDragon’s question, which is great. So we’re going to move on to Crashpad14 and Loserbum, uh who asks: With the Xbox Series consoles getting a native version, uh will we see the game on PC getting that same upgrade or will it remain on DX11 for the time being? Also, what other plans does the team have to address performance issues moving forward?
Bill: Sure, yeah, I think I’ll tackle that all pretty quickly here. So, you know, just first and foremost, the first milestone was getting these out. I mean, just getting them out to you guys to be able to to experience them is is our was our first milestone, and we’ve gotten to that finally. Uh, but to answer the question, we have a bunch of additional work um that we’re going to be starting on, you know, after this launches that’s going to be improving the game across all the platforms. And some of that, for example, if we go to the platform specific stuff, uh will be looking at PS5 Pro um submission there, you know, to make sure that all the We’ve got all the 4K conditions met. Uh, we just need to do some additional testing and submission work there. Uh, PSSR upscale will also happen at this point uh in the future. Uh, we need to get the Xbox One onto real GDK, currently it’s still on XDK. Uh, we will be doing some things like FSR for Xbox Series S and X, uh giving FOV sliders finally for all platforms, uh HDR support, uh better widescreen support, um and then specifically for PC, we’ll be looking into multi-threaded rendering for PC uh as well as the Direct3D 12 uh updates on that, too. So, um those are kind of like just the initial things that we have in our list of things that we’re going to be doing, um but we also have some really cool I would say fixes that we found along the way, which’ll be which’ll be coming up relatively soon, too. So we have some really good uh updates to our cube map and lighting and shadow updates that are going to be coming soon, um and as Jon can tell you, um it looks really good. Like th- there were some areas of the game, especially like Burning Springs and Skyline Valley, and definitely parts of Appalachia that look just so much better now with those changes, and so those were things we just discovered along the way that needed to be updated and fixed, and it looks really good. Um, and then one thing I wanted to kind of drop for everybody uh that you will certainly enjoy, and hopefully get really excited about, is that you’ll finally be getting shadows in your shelters. We’ve got that coming, so uh th- that’s been a long time as well, so uh that that stuff looks really good, too. Shelters look really good with that with that change, so good stuff.
Rob: Yeah, the…
Jon: In regards to the the lighting updates and and reflective changes, um these’ll all be coming out like uh slowly through the rest of the year. Uh you’ll see you’ll see these uh going in. But like like the reflecting the reflective changes have to do with like Bill said, the cube maps. So like picture you’re in a suit of like really glossy power armor, right? And and kind of in the game right now, um it’ll sort of look like really bright or kind of frosted. Uh we’ve changed how those uh reflections behave. Now it actually looks like really nice uh glossy metal. So that’ll be in most of most of the time that you see those uh those kinds of updates is in uh sort of really glossy metallic surfaces, but also uh revisiting um a lot of the like the weathers that makes a huge difference in how the game is uh kind of portrayed, right? Uh how the world is is is sort of presented. Um, sort of darken the night the night a bit, desaturate a little bit, uh kind of play at the shadows. So I think folks’ll notice a bit over time through the rest of the year.
Rob: Yeah, because what I’m hearing from you both is like the job’s not done. Like Bill said, getting the native versions up on Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 was the start, and now we just get to continue and improve and improve and improve across all platforms. And I think specifically when you brought up the shelter lighting, that’s not The Slasher, but that’s World Pets, right?
Bill: That’s later on, yeah.
Rob: Yeah, yeah. So just to set expectations, you know, the team is always working towards improving the technical sides of the game. I know Bill said a lot of stuff that makes me excited as somebody who primarily plays on PC and has this very sick rig, so I think we all have a lot to look forward to moving forward. Um, the next question, again we’re staying on the next-gen tech topic, is from Hungarian Toad, and I’m going to add uh Hoyster’s question to this, too, uh because they’re both kind of generally talking about with these next-gen updates kind of coming in and with the improvements that the team has planned, how does this tie, or does this tie into any other improvements that players might see in game such as camp building spaces increasing, uh extra character slots being available? Um, so I’m going to leave it there for you.
Bill: Sure, yeah, those things are always on the table for us, and Jon may have a little bit more information on it, but I would say in terms of the character slots, that’s a little bit more of a of a difficult issue for us right now, but um, you know, in terms of increasing camp budgets and and space and stuff like that, those are always been things we’ve always wanted for for our players as well, so um so those are still on the table for us to discuss.
Jon: Yeah, we’ve we’ve been discussing especially the the camp budget quite a bit. Um, not not saying, “Yeah, this is what we’re doing, this is what we’ve discussed,” bigger camp budget. We’ve even discussed slightly bigger radius. We’ve discussed all these things. Um, what this next-gen update allows us to do now is is take another look at those uh and sort of assess uh viable pathways to get those to get those out to to you all, so um when we have more info on it, we’ll happily happily share it, ‘cause, you know, us being players of the game, we want this just as much as you do, uh but taking into account how many people can be on the map at once, there are considerations that need to be uh taken for how much we’re allowing people to build up these spaces so that we don’t uh start to detract from the experience of other players. Uh, but those things are very much on the menu and they’re looking results are looking pretty good from some of the tests we’ve been doing, so stay tuned for more info there.
Rob: Stay tuned. The next question is from Gestalt. Um, has the team ever considered releasing an HD texture pack as optional DLC for, obviously, PC Steam players, uh just so that they can better take advantage of current hardware and monitors and stuff like that?
Bill: Uh, we have not. We haven’t really had any discussions on that. It’s not off the table, of course, but, you know, usually those are things that our community will be digging into themselves and and put up there for folks to check out, but uh yeah, from our side, uh no, but I would say that as we go forward, there’s probably a lot more opportunity for uh increased fidelity across textures and things like that in the game, and and we’ll be looking at that, you know, a little bit more, you know, now that we’re on uh these new platforms, so.
Rob: Yeah, cool. And uh, Bill, I actually think you answered this last one already, but uh RoughasOak was talking about um pushing past the 60 FPS frame cap that that the game currently kind of works with and improving per- performance and visual fidelity on on PC. And like you said earlier, you know, the team’s working on a bunch of different things, a bunch of different ways across all platforms to make that experience better.
Bill: Yeah, the game the game is built to run at 60, um and so, you know, even though we know full full well on PC, you know, you’re kind of able to go past that and and turn off VSync, we don’t suggest it mostly because you will get into interior spaces that feel like you’re getting blocked by some sort of invisible wall and things like that, so, you know, it’s it’s going to also depend on your PC, which is why we don’t support, you know, change making those changes in those settings, so I know Danielle and Richard and myself, um you know, we we stay away from that mostly, uh even though you guys have a tendency to do it, it just uh it comes it comes with issues sometimes, too, so the game’s built to be be running at 60. It feels good at 60, too, by the way, um so I would suggest just keeping it at that. Um, you know, any any exploration on your own is uh at your own uh peril, so… But yeah, but you know, fidelity in terms of the the first part of that question, in terms of fidelity, yeah, always, you know, we we want to continue to improve the fidelity of game, make it look good, and uh as we already talked about with lighting and shadows and cube maps and reflections and things like that, um we’ll we’ll continue to do improvements there, so looking forward to it.
Rob: Awesome. So that wraps up our segment on tech and kind of uh the native updates. Rob, I’m passing it to you.
Richard: Cool. Yeah, I’m going to cover some of the uh the Slasher content now. So uh first question we have is from Bracer. Um and this is for uh Barbara and Jon: Are the Slasher activities persistent or time locked?
Barbara: So the Slasher activities, uh they are going to be released on a schedule, but they are going to be layered on top of each other. So once the first like at the at first you have a number of activities, then after the next schedule, you have all of these and the ones you had before. They keep being added on top of each other with the exception of Mischief Night and Spooky Scorched, which are going to have their usual length of time. So the idea here is that if you arrive later, if you miss a week, you still have plenty of fun of time to join the fun, and you’re not missing anything. But of course, once the event uh ends, when we introduce Patch 72, uh that’s when the Slasher event ends and then all of the activities will stop.
Jon: Yeah, kind of riffing off that, what what we had thought of the experience from the start was, you know, as the first thing is unlocked on on week one, it kind of starts slow and you’re looking at a couple things, and then as time goes on, uh, you know, these things aren’t turning off, it’s they’re layered over the top of one another, so that by the end of this 12 or 13 weeks, the wasteland feels like it has been taken over by these sickos, right, by these psychophants, uh by these Slasher fanatics. Uh so it’s going to be very much an experience that builds, builds, builds, builds, builds, and the more that you participate in in these events that are building on top of one another, the more rewards uh that you’re going to get along the way. So, yeah, um very unique very unique update for us.
Richard: Mm, feels like really taking over and getting everywhere. Thank you both. Um next question we have here is from uh Zeradan, I believe. Um they ask: It might be too early to divulge, but curious if this content will repeat each year? Uh of course the rewards are are randomized, um so they just want to ask if, you know, is there going to be more opportunities to get these rewards again in the future?
Jon: Possibly. Um yeah, you know, maybe maybe we run this again in a year, maybe we run this again in a year with more rewards, maybe we come up with a different one, I I don’t know, I couldn’t really say at this point, but uh we we usually like to leave the door open for people that have missed out on content to be able to get them in other ways, too, so um yeah, so I would just I would just stay tuned for any more info that comes up along that that route.
Barbara: Yeah, I think the the best part of working on a live service game is that we get to hear from the community and see how they feel about the content and then we can adapt and change and see what resonates, what doesn’t, so it’s all about how you guys feel about it and whether we want to bring it back.
Richard: Cool, thank you both. Uh next question, this is from OdoByo, this is a a double whammy question, so um: Will we ever get new music added to Appalachia Radio, and is there any plans to increase the stash box limit? Um, Barbara, did you want to talk to the uh the new music for the Slasher update?
Barbara: Yeah, so uh I don’t know about Appalachia Radio, but with this update, uh the Debunker News radio station is going to have unique, spooky music that is going to be playing all uh over the the Slasher season. Uh I, honestly, I’ve been listening to it non-stop while working on the quest, and I think the audio team picked some great hits, I’m excited for everyone to hear it. And not only that, uh this radio station is a little bit different than our usual ones. Uh it is going to be time limited, so it’s only available during the Slasher content, uh but it’s also uh adapting based on the state of the world and the state of the player progression, so it’s a little bit more like our uh single-player radio stations. You’re going to hear the the host, the Debunker, uh saying different things based on how you’ve progressed the questline, so it’s pretty exciting.
Richard: Awesome. Um and then Bill and/or Jon, do you want to talk about um the the question about the stash box limit?
Jon: Um, you know, those are discussions that we have all the time, as well, and we try to come up with alternate ways for people to stash their stuff, right? Like so you got the Aid Box and and and whatnot, um so, yeah, we’re we’re trying to always add value, uh add value to that, make it easier for folks. Bill, I just noticed you had a little friend watching you back there.
Bill: I do.
Barbara: Oh!
Jon: Is that your camp pet?
Bill: That’s my camp pet, because dogs are better than cats.
Jon: Okay. Well, I I mean fine, but I I thought it was a pillow and then I I was talking and I see this little head look at me. “Oh, wait a minute, is…”
Bill: I’m kidding, I love cats.
Jon: “…there a thing back there?” Yeah.
Richard: We’ll keep an eye We’ll keep an eye on chat, make sure they’re behaving after that remark.
Rob: Bill, I was I was like, I’m just going to let you manage that one by yourself, that’s all you, man.
Jon: I have my I have my thoughts there. I have my I’m kind of in line with Bill’s. I’ll say this, I think if a cat was the size of a house, it would eat you. I think a d- dog with the size of a house wouldn’t know the difference.
Bill: Oh, for sure, cats are always planning how they’re going to take you out.
Rob: Absolutely, that’s what makes them great.
Jon: Yeah.
Richard: Um yeah, thank you. Um up next are some general questions, and this one is from uh JBoss. Uh: Are there any plans for more balancing of the mobs themselves? Um seems like there’s, you know, a lot of um focus on the the mobs rather than the actual boss target. Um while we’re trying to take care of the mobs, we get Punishers and Crushers spawning on repeat, um is is there going to be sort of a rebalancing towards the the sort of mob enemies as well?
Jon: Is that a question about enemies in general or is this about specifically the for the Slasher?
Richard: Uh enemy enemies in general, so including, you know, like Headhunters, for example, Infestations.
Jon: Yeah, so, you know, something about a live service game, especially one that’s coming up on its 8th year uh anniversary of being a live service is, you know, over time, as you all know, we release updates and patches and and new features and and so these things kind of get layered up on top of one another um and uh and and sometimes the larger picture can kind of shift in ways that we didn’t intend, so we do talk about like a wider uh balance of of mobs, right, um of also uh gear, um even even consumables, like food and recipes and and stimpacks and coffee and uh so there’s there’s kind of a there’s kind of a lot that needs to sort of be tuned. The mobs are are a part of that, right, um but like uh, you know, imagine taking on a really difficult mob, right, and then like spamming stimpacks, is the problem the mob or is the problem that I have infinite life with these stimpacks, right? Uh so it’s there’s there’s a lot there a lot of different ways to look at this, but there’s not really like one solution, they’re all related. Um, we we are talking about that and trying not to trying not to put it together in a way that it’s like, “Hey, everything’s different now! Have fun,” uh but in a way that’s like kind of uh a little slower that feel feels a bit more natural, but those uh those things are definitely recognized.
Richard: Cool, thank you, Jon. Um this is an open floor question for everyone, given we just spoke about lunch uh earlier before we started, this question is from Zeradan: New cannery yeah, new cannery recipes when? Would love to see some new cannery recipe packs every season.
Bill: Canned axolotl.
Richard: Somehow we’re always back there.
Rob: What’s wrong with you?
Jon: Come on, Bill.
Barbara: Well, I think we should give some love to our cannibal players, maybe some canned Raiders, too.
Jon: Oh, funny.
Bill: That’s actually pretty funny.
Jon: And our herbivores, just give them some canned mud.
Barbara: Haha!
Rob: That feels a little bit like an insult.
Jon: No, it’s not. There’s a lot of minerals and and stuff in mud.
Rob: Are we sure about that?
Jon: Pretty sure. Well, depends on where you get the mud from.
Rob: Yeah, yeah. So the team’s, you know, always looking into new new options and stuff when it comes to the cannery recipes?
Richard: Cool, thank you all. Interesting answers. Um this is a question for Bill from uh Agon024. Um this is a question about seismic activity. Um so the Seismic Activity event uh activity can’t be completed back to back on the same server like others. Uh is there any sort of plan to to address that?
Bill: That’s not supposed to happen. We we specifically tested that to be run uh three consecutive times in a row, so if that is still happening, I would try to maybe capture video of it and give it up to us on Discord, and we’ll we’ll take a look at it and see what’s going on there, but yeah, that’s not expected, for sure.
Richard: Cool, yeah, always keep keep reports in the um 76 Bug Report channels. We check them every week, review them every week, so yeah, it’s really appreciated post stuff in there. Uh a question from LAndru, this is to Bill and Jon: Is there a better way to donate stuff to Oh! I can hear myself, is that coming from me or… I’ll carry on. Uh they ask about a better way to donate stuff to new players, um personal donation bins at camps otherwise, um and if they see new players running around the wasteland and you want to donate to them and not just dump stuff in the sort of set donation boxes, so essentially, is there a way we can add donation boxes at camps for when people visit?
Jon: Donation boxes in camps? Um technically, I don’t think there’s anything that would stop us from doing it, although it is kind of fun sort of having these kind of community spaces with the donation box, too, that brings people together, especially the one just outside of the vault. Um certainly wouldn’t be against the idea, I can’t think of any tactical reasons not to, uh but there are no like set plans to have donation boxes in camps.
Richard: Cool, thank you. Um this next question is from Cannonfire14. Um this is a question about the increase of um resources required for modifying legendary weapons and armor uh as well as the named items, the unique items. Um general question asking about the sort of thought process behind the the increases there. Uh Richard, I believe you have some insight into this one?
Rob: Yeah, so I’ve reached out to uh so if you don’t know, uh unique item crafting is also arriving with The Slasher Update, which is going to unlock a lot of different opportunities for you to kind of perfect your your your builds and your weapons and any other unique items that you might have, um but also along with that, as Cannonfire mentioned, is a change to the way that the the requirements that these items cost. So I reached out to the dev who who was working on this, and they gave me the following answer: um “Changing legend the legendary mods on your items is something that happens rather infrequently in the wasteland. In the live game, the game that you can access right right now, the cost to modify an i- an item gradually increases up to extreme amounts. With The Slasher Update, we have changed this to a fixed amount uh along with increasing the Scrip you gain from scrapping and selling legendary items. This makes it significantly easier to gain Scrip and modify le- legendary items as a newer player, uh while eventually saving up to modify your favorite unique item.” Um, the dev also wanted me to mention that it it’s really about creating a journey for you to experience and like go on when trying to craft the perfect weapon or the perfect piece of unique armor, um and that’s kind of the core around why the these changes are being made, plus, um we all know you all pretty well and you’re pretty disgusting at making amazing builds and crafting the perfect item and weapon, so there needs to be a little bit of cost to being able to to craft the weapon of your dreams. Bill, Jon, anything that you would like to to add to that?
Jon: We’ll see, you know, it’s we we understand uh the initial impression, right, uh but we want to see how this plays out on live, see how players um see how players adapt to it, um see what kind of see what kind of weapons and what kind of gear comes out of it, so uh but we hear you, it’s not falling on deaf ears.
Rob: Awesome. So now we’re going to move into the next section, which is going to be Legacy Seasons. We have uh a few questions that I’ve went out and gathered answers for, so probably going to rapid fire through these a bit quickly, but Jon, Bill, if you have anything to add, please feel free to stop me. Um, the first question is from Barbie Pickles: Both the season and Legacy Season is going to cost tickets. How are we going to be able to afford both seasons completely? Um, and then the follow-up question was: Can we get more frequent boost opportunities like double XP weekends or for a full week? Uh, and the answer to that is we will definitely continue to look for ways to improve how players progress through the seasons and earn more tickets through play. The season will this season will have some additional ticket challenges with Spooky Scorched, and we will look for additional bonus SCORE events, kind of like how Jon just mentioned for the uh modifying legendary weapons and armor, you know, we want to get this out and then let you all experience it, and then tell us how the experience was. The team is always looking to make adjustments based off of your feedback. Bodha5747 asks: Is the team looking into giving each player the choice of which Legacy Season they’d like to play? For example, when a player first logs in during a season, they could choose in-game which previous season they would like to play. The answer is uh we first wanted to give the community choice on what Legacy Season comes back, which is why we already know what our second season will be, uh thanks to the community vote. Thank you all who participated, that was pretty awesome. Uh we have discussed the possibility of bringing back more choice in Legacy Seasons, but don’t have any plans at the moment, just yet. The next question, whose name I didn’t actually grab, I apologize, but if you recognize that this question is yours, this is your question: Will non-Fallout 1st owners need to purchase the season pass twice for Legacy Seasons? No. The season pass currently will grant you access to season rewards just like it does on the main season, also just like Fallout 1st does, so don’t need to worry about picking up uh two season passes if you do if you are not a Fallout 1st member.
Jon: That was my question, Rich.
Rob: That was your question? Thank you, Jon. That was such a great question.
Jon: It was a good question.
Rob: Yeah. Medzilla asks: Are Legacy Season First Fallout 1st rewards available to claim if we buy the season pass? Yes. The next question is from Doomsday Romantic: With the addition of Legacy Seasons, I’m wondering if we’re going to be awarded more tickets now. Perhaps more repeatable challenges such as gain XP for level 1 through 100 and complete public events for levels 150+ could be added, so players have variation and choice on the repeatable activities we choose to grind for scoreboard levels and tickets. Uh, and the team says, similar to our an- our answer for Barbie, our first quest- our first question, uh we’re going to be looking for ways to improve how you progress through Legacy Seasons uh once it’s in your hands and we get your experience feedback. Um, the team has included more and more repeatable in-game events in our post-100 uh progression and will continue to do so as more come to the game, uh but no plans at the moment for something like that yet. And lastly, this question is just kind of a collection of questions from various different people, uh and it’s going to be for Jon: Would you mind talking a bit about the work that the team is doing to improve seasonal rewards moving forward, uh specifically after we made uh we released that that message after the Infestations re- releases? Um, some people kind of looked at Season 26, the season coming with the Slasher, and expressed some dis- some disappointment that the team potentially didn’t go far enough with improving the rewards. So, Jon, I’m going to toss that to you.
Jon: Sure, yeah. Um, so we okay, so with how with how these massive live service games work, right, we’re working like way in the future. So, because there’s so much content to make, so much content to test, uh we we’re not like finishing up work and then releasing it the next week, and then finishing it it’s So when we get feedback, right, that we want to action on, “Hey, we need better seasons rewards, we want less what less paints, less,” you know, “less uh less filler rewards,” it’s because of the size of the game, the features, the work that goes into it, we can’t pivot right away. Uh, for Season 26, uh the one coming up, I got that right, right? 26?
Rob: Yes, yes.
Jon: For Season 26, the one coming up, what we did do was we we looked back at all the rewards that we had planned and we kind of brainstormed ways that we could bring bigger rewards in through that season, right? Uh, for instance, since a lot of these things were already made, we went into some of the Atomic Shop weeks for the surrounding patches and said, “I think that this big thing would be better in here, this big thing better in here in seasons.” Uh, and so at that point in time, that was as far as we could take it, right, because we didn’t have uh the time to go back through and uh and sort of re-engineer more rewards and have those made and get those integrated. Um, that’s for this season, so we we did our best with what we could to to fill the rewards out for the season and make them more thematically appropriate. Um, and there’s some cool stuff in there. Uh, I I really love the the Jack Gordon power armor, I thought turned out really well. Um, and also very very thematic to the patch and the time of year coming up, right, it’s almost Halloween. So, where discussions have gone for subsequent seasons, you know, 27 and 28, is from the get-go, from the ideation phase, right, a- before before any work is done and in 3D or any work is done in CK, when we’re just writing stuff down on paper, uh making sure that that first pass feels like really meaty, right? Are are Does this feel like a substantial offering to our players? Uh, and then from there, uh kind of uh creating those and and getting those into the season, and so we’ve really we’ve got them worked up all the way up to update 76, and, you know, they get a little bigger, a little better, a little bigger, a little better as time goes on. Um, I think that having the the Legacy Seasons uh in tandem with the new seasons, um, is a nice way to kind of boost the rewards, too. I know that there are a lot of a lot of players, like I watch I watch Gassy’s video, uh saying that he had missed some of these uh seasons originally and that being able to go back through and and get these rewards was something that he was really looking forward to, I think that’s also a nice way to sort of uh bolster bolster the value of the seasons and the rewards, too. But I don’t want that to sound like that’s what we’re leaning on, we are looking at the core new season uh as well, and ALWAYS looking for ways to improve those rewards. Um, sorry, that’s a lot of that’s a lot of me talking, but it’s it’s that’s really that’s really the thought that goes behind it. It’s feedback we get for for this game because of how big it is, it just takes a little while, it just takes a little while to to to turn the ship, right, but it doesn’t mean that we’re not that we’re not trying and and and doing our best, so hopefully you guys recognize Season 26 has some has some pretty cool stuff, yeah, there are some repaints in there, too, uh but there’s also a lot of a lot of cool new things uh as well, and season afterwards should be should be even better than that.
Rob: Awesome. Thank you. All right, Rob, I’m going to pass it to you.
Richard: Mm-hmm. Well, on the spirit of um philosophy, I hope you’re you’re both feeling ready, this is for Bill and Jon, and this is a question from Mole Miner Gauntlet: What is the experience or idea you want players to immediately associate with Fallout 76, something that sets it apart from other Fallout games and live-service RPGs? What is the team doing to turn that vision into reality, and what are the biggest priorities, systems, or changes you’re working on to ensure that this identity actually shapes the game’s future?
Jon: That’s a great question. You mind if I go, Bill?
Bill: Yeah, you can go first.
Jon: So, the number one thing that sets Fallout 76 apart from the other Fallout games is it’s the very first time that our wonderful Bethesda Games community has been able to experience a Fallout game together in the same world space. It is the very first time that you’ve been able to go in there and run through the wasteland together, and the ways that we are trying to accentuate that are I would say the updates over the past I’d say the updates over the past couple of years or so, and you may have heard us refer to the players in these ways in past interviews, uh have very much uh facilitated our adventurers and our builders, right? Um, something that we’ve come to recognize is that that what we need to start doing is starting to facilitate our our socializers, right, our people uh bringing reasons uh to play together, uh benefits to playing together, uh like things to do with one another, ways to create bonds with other wastelands and other players, um, and then it makes those experiences of going out and adventuring or going out and building even more fun, right? Um, and so a lot of roadmap discussion for beyond uh like calendar 2027 is aimed at those kind of uh sort of socializer uh enriching features, right? These are examples, I’m not saying this is what we’re doing, but to sort of paint a picture of of what this could look like, right, like imagine there being uh like meaningful factions in the game that you are a part of, there are benefits to being part of that faction, right, people that you meet, people that you play with, things that you can build with, things that you can maybe do with workshops, resources you can extract, just examples of ways to bring players together. Even World Pets uh could do that, too, right, like imagine there being reasons to play with other people with pets and different behaviors different pets have with one another, um, so again, I apologize for the long-winded answer, uh once I get rolling, I’m kind of like a snowball rolling downhill, um, but uh yeah, number one thing that sets it apart is being able to play with one another, first time our community’s ever been able to do it, and what that means for the future of 76 is enriching uh features that really underline uh the socializing aspects of uh of how our players play.
Richard: Awesome. Thank you, Jon. Uh before we move on, Bill, did you want to uh do you have anything to add, or…
Bill: Yeah, I mean and Jon encapsulated pretty pretty well. I mean, as as we’ve always said for a number of years now, we do have the best community in gaming here, and the players and all the people who engage with us, you know, we’re part of that community, too. We’ve been playing this game for a long time, we jump into Discord all the time, we jump in on live games all the time, uh I have people join me, you know, whenever I’m playing on Xbox or even Steam, you know, and so um it it’s just uh an amazing group of people who are very dedicated to to this product and this game and and and Bethesda in general. They play all the games, you know, and so having them join in, and then us trying to figure out better ways and even more ways for that community to be able to engage with each other, uh some of that comes through all the camp items that we um that we put in the shop, you know, some we’ll put out a stage and it’s got lights and cameras and stuff like that, and then people will build that, and then they’ll go and rehearse a play, you know, and that’s really cool to see, uh especially uh if you’re in the world and you just happen to come across it or people like, “Hey, come check this out,” so um so I think it’s just finding, again, more ways to be able to do that and create that uh sense of community and and kind of um bound for, you know, for for the different players that engage with the game in that way, and so I I’m really just happy and always always excited to to jump in and see not only what camps people are making, but what kind of crazy things they’re doing together in the in the in the world sometimes, and it’s it’s always fun, so uh so, yeah.
Jon: Can I add on a little bit to my answer? It’s based on some of the comments I’m seeing in chat, DustBunnyAnna asks, “So where does that leave solo players?” Well, we would definitely never want to leave solo players in a lurch, right? That’s something else that we’ve always said uh when discussing the game is we don’t want to tell players how to play, right? If you’re someone who wants to play solo, uh we should be supporting that. Uh a a crude example of that could even be like, “Hey, I’m a solo player and I want to do a raid, I don’t want to have to get a group going together,” there should be uh an option for that or a way that I can do that, um and and we discuss that, too. Uh so so, we’re not forgetting about solo players, I don’t want my uh messaging about about socializers uh to to come across as as disregarding solo players, we’re absolutely not, we’re just looking for more ways to incentivize people to play together, right? It seems like like, yeah, right now, there are a lot of players that play together, uh but I would say from when I’ve played and observing how other players play, you kind of play together when you need to and then you sort of go off, you’re kind of like a it’s almost like a pretend multiplayer game, then you go off and do do your own thing, so just looking for ways to strengthen the bonds for players that really do want to play with other players and more reasons for that, but, yeah, uh DustBunnyAnna, not not forgetting about the solo player either.
Richard: Great, thank you both, great answers. Um this is a question from uh Ghoul Just Wanna Have Fun, which I just have to say, amazing username. Um: With the addition of pets as wasteland companions, are there any plans to include the same for vault dwellers? Um, they wouldn’t mind they wouldn’t mind being reminded how licorice tastes different before the war every few minutes while wandering around Appalachia.
Jon: You or me, Bill?
Bill: You can tackle it, because you know me, I’ll I’ll just say yes, it’s happening, and then you have to figure out a way to to make it happen, so.
Jon: Oh, yeah, yeah, that’s that’s always fun. Um, so, I have to admit, I was distracted by the AMA chat. Rob, could you repeat the first part of the question? I think I get it.
Richard: Sure, I’ll skip the tongue twister part, because I really struggled with that. With the addition of of pets as wasteland companions, are there any plans to include the same for vault dwellers?
Jon: Ah, for allies, right, yeah. Um, funny you’ve asked that. Uh, we actually have had a number of conversations about that. Um, I would love to get something like that in, right, turning camp allies into true companions. Um, so my answer will be, hopefully, I think that that would be really cool, um, not only turning them into companions uh that could travel the world with you, but also into, you know, useful assets for your camp that you can have do other things, if you have more than one camp ally, maybe they could do things together, I don’t know, there’s been a lot of discussions, there’s been a few discussions on that, uh, and and I’m hopeful that we can do something with it, but I think I think we’re we’re thinking along the same lines, for sure.
Bill: I think the players and the team have come up with enough like ways to make it sound fun and engaging and have value, um, and so that’s that’s why those continue, you know, those will likely those discussions will continue uh for it, so, definitely not something that came up and was like, “Nah, that sounds dumb,” no, it’s there’s definitely value there.
Jon: Yeah, and like think about this, it’s so much fun in a game like this how all these features are sort of related, right, and when you are uh sort of brainstorming ways to enrich in these features or even add new ones, you know, you hear me talking about socializers, well, okay, well what if I what if I had an ally that could be my companion and travel the waste with me, or what if I could leave allies at my camp, are there ways that they could benefit my friends’ camps or my enemies’ camps, maybe not benefit, um, so it’s, you know, there’s there’s there’s lots of different angles to look at all of these discussions uh from, um, but, yeah, anyways, I’m rambling, I I I do hope that we can do something with that, I think it’d be a lot of fun.
Richard: For sure, well, thank you. Um, next question is from Prince Julius. Um: Any chance of a second raid soon? Uh, this December will be two years since Gleaming Depths.
Jon: Yeah.
Richard: Short and sweet, nice.
Jon: Although soon is a relative term. In the grand scheme of things, uh, you know, soon can mean a lot of things, but but yes, you know, the intent with, uh, I’ll be very transparent, the intent with the raids feature, um, is long term to have at least a few of them. Um, there’s a reason for that, uh, that sort of brings them all together, but, uh, our first raid, no, we are we are not done with raids, we have we have, uh, plans in motion for more.
Richard: Awesome, thank you. Um, this is a question from uh Fargassier, actually. Uh, this is a question about legendary perk cards for builds: A highly requested feature that players have asked for is to be able to associate legendary perk cards with specific builds, so players don’t have to change out or remember which legendary perk cards they’re using on individual builds. Is this something the team might be playing around with?
Jon: I would love that. What do you say, Bill?
Bill: Yeah, I mean, I think in terms of the job board in general, um, I certainly have got a number of ideas, and I know the other the team has a number of ideas, too, on how to make some changes there for that, too, because, again, I think I think we want to spend you guys to spend or you all to spend less time in the UI and more time playing the game, and I think it does get a little bit difficult sometimes to go into that job board and be able to set up a new loadout and uh and start from scratch, and then go from setting your specials to then adding your perks in, and then adding your legendary perks in. I I think that system itself is a little bit clunky, um, and so we’ve been talking about ways to improve that um and and give you better ways to be able to manage that, but it kind of goes along with the question that was asked there, um, you know, in terms of uh really just switching things out, you know, quickly, and being able to to go from build to build, um, so, yeah, we we’ve got some ideas there that we’re playing around with.
Richard: Thank you. Uh and the last question from me before I throw it back over to Richard, um, this is from uh Schimmdy: Will Daily Ops and Expeditions be getting reworks? I feel this falls into the thickening of Appalachia and all the systems in the game, plus there’s still so much to explore with the existing expedition locations.
Rob: Thank you so much for using the term “thickening.” I remember when Jon first said “thickening” to us and he hated it, but then now we’re saying “thickening” like a lot, and it’s such a great word.
Jon: Was that question for me or for Rich?
Richard: It was for you, Jon, sorry.
Jon: Oh, um, yeah, we’ve discussed uh kind of additional Daily Ops modes, um, we’ve discussed, of course, more locations, of course, more rewards, um, Expeditions is something that has really been on my mind a lot. Uh, Expeditions, I think, on their own are a lot of fun, I think the problem is when held up against the rest of our wasteland, they never change, right? They’re always you go in, you do the set of things, and you get your thing. Um, and so I think that something our players like is sort of all these these sort of layers of chaos that can kind of build on top of one another, right, um, and and that’s something that Expeditions is kind of missing. I think that like the locations are great, I think that the stories behind them are fantastic, um, I think that the way they’re presented likely needs to change in some way, uh, there are a couple possible avenues uh to go there, which would require a bit of rework to to to I’m sure Barbara’s just cringing right now as I as I talk about this, a bit of a bit of rewiring under the hood,, but, you know, I think in an ideal space, what those would look like are, you know, again, challenging experiences that you could do with a group, that you could do by yourself, um, that are rewarding, but that aren’t always always the same. I think that they I think if we were to adjust those, they would need to be something very special, perhaps even run limited time like like a season event, possibly, um, you know, maybe converted into something similar format as a raid or similar format as to something else that we haven’t quite yet disclosed, but maybe will be disclosing soon. Uh, so we’ll we’ll see, there’s a lot of discussions going on with that, uh, but yeah, Expeditions is definitely definitely top of mind, uh, trying to work through some solutions for it, but yeah, I’m with I’m with you on that, I want to see see something happen there. Yeah, Fallout Hawaii, that’d be awesome.
Rob: Going to stop you right there, Jon. Thank you so much for that really good Thank you so much for that really good answer.
Jon: What? Are you trying to say I’m too long-winded, Richard? Am I too long-winded today?
Rob: All right, gang. Uh, before we let you all go, there were a few highly upvoted questions um that we did want to provide a a answer for, um, so I Mr Enclave and VirtualShifty both asked about Raven Rock, and of course we appreciate everybody’s excitement about Raven Rock, which was announced back in July, I believe, as an update that the team is working on, uh, but right now it’s not the time for us to talk about it. Uh, when it is time, believe me, you all will know that it’s time to talk about that. Um, and then the next question that I wanted to make sure that we addressed was from UADerp who asked about preserving Fallout 76 for a time when the servers may no longer be active. Uh, I wanted to thank you for that question, uh, the team has strong plans to support Fallout 76 for years to come. Anytime Jon shows up in the office, he’s always talking about things in the far future, so much so to the point where I’m like, “Hey, Jon, I’m trying to show we’re trying to get out The Slasher, I can’t think about what you’re talking about right now, but it sounds freaking awesome.” Um, so wanted to make sure that you all know that first and and foremost, uh, but we also don’t have anything to share about your question in particular, UADerp, uh, at the moment, but we really do appreciate that people want to make sure that they can play Fallout 76 for however long and at any time they want. Um, so with those two questions addressed, I wanted to say give a huge thank you to our guests. Barbara, thank you so much for showing up, this was your first AMA, did you have fun?
Barbara: I had a lot of fun, thank you so much for having me, and I’ve been keeping up with the chat and hearing everyone, you’re such a great community, thank you for having me.
Rob: Awesome, thank you. Jon, Bill, thank you again for showing up, I know that you all have a lot of fun with these, but thank you.
Jon: Thank you.
Bill: Yeah, we do, yeah, we we enjoy being here for sure, um, especially with uh with our Discord folks, um, again, we’re we’re in the channels all the time chatting with them and talking with them about the game and stuff, so it’s it’s always fun to do this.
Rob: And then last but not least, thank you to my amazing co-host, Rob, thank you so much for for stepping in, um, glad that we were able to do This was your second one, right?
Richard: Yep, second. Thank you again for having me. Lots of fun.
Rob: Yeah, many more to come, for sure. All right, that’s a wrap. We’ll catch you guys later. Bye, have a great weekend! Oh, um, stay tuned for some news in the PTS channels if you’re a part of that. Um, we have some fun stuff coming up very, very soon. I’m like leaving this and then posting there, it’s a busy day.
Richard: It’s really funny, Richard, I just watched like the audience count slightly dip and then suddenly peak back up as you just cut off halfway through when you said that.
Rob: All right, gang. Bye.
Richard: See ya!
Jon: Bye.

Jon:
Jon:
Jon:
Jon?
Jon:
Jon:
Jon:
Jon:
Barbara:
Barbara:
Barbara:
Barbara:
Jon:
Jon:
Barbara:
Barbara:
Jon:
Jon:
Jon:
Barbara:
Jon:
Jon:
Jon:
リチャード: Topo Chico(炭酸水)で。
Jon: Topo Chico。
Jon:
Jon:
Bill:
Jon:
Jon:
Jon:
MODUS、Fargassier、Nuka Girl。
Bill:
Jon: Bill
Jon:
Bill:
Jon: え?
Bill: 19日。
Jon: 本当?
Bill:
Jon:
Bill:
Jon: Nuka Girl、
Bill:
Bill:
Jon: Psycho。
Bill:
Jon:
Jon?
Jon:
Bill:
Bill:
Jon:
Bill:
Jon:
Barbara:
Bill:
Bill:
Bill:
Barbara: あら!
Jon:
Bill:
Jon:
Bill:
Jon:
Bill:
Jon:
Barbara:
Jon:
Jon:
Jon:
Bill?
Bill:
Ghoul Just Wanna Have Funからの質問。
Jon:
Jon:
Jon:
Jon:
